What went on at Tristan’s Cars, Trains, and Planes Party

I cant believe it, my little lovey turned TWO last weekend!!! ❤ I never believed it before whenever parents used to talk about how quickly their kids grow up. Well, I am here to tell you: IT’S ALL TRUE!!! Time flew by so quickly–it seems like only yesterday when I had just given birth to the cutest little baby boy, and now I have a toddler. If only there were a ‘pause button’ we could press to allow us to take in all the wonderful memories so we could remember each one forever. The reality is, we forget to take a moment and enjoy what’s in front of us. Thank God for photos, though there’s never enough time to organize them!

And so we celebrated Tristan’s birthday with his favorite theme: CARS, TRAINS & PLANES! Our little man enjoyed so much he didn’t want to leave his party! It was an entire afternoon of singing, storytelling, doing arts & crafts, eating and playing with his best buddies. He was the happiest little birthday boy, and I was the happiest momma to witness it all.

As you know, Tristan has been using NUBY feeding products since day one (I’ve been posting about it in Instagram). We love these because they are super safe, easy to use and clean, and are oh, so colorful. Tristan’s NUBY feeding bowls, utensils, and water bottles have gone with us around the world as we make sure to pack them when we travel. It has made feeding Tristan super fun and easy, and I recommend it to all parents who are looking for safe feeding products for their babies. That’s why when Jenna Sy of NUBY (and Aprica, which I am also a complete fan of) asked me if they could throw Tristan a party, well, I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough.

What a party it was! I am so thankful to all of the suppliers and sponsors who made it all possible:

Styled by Deiz (IG handle: @styledbydeiz) for making this dream theme come to life. We had giant airplane centerpieces, a giant locomotive train and Tristan’s name is lights! We couldn’t ask for anything more. The meeting room in F1 Hotel, BGC was transformed into an amazing play area. The kids couldn’t get enough of it!

Instamug (@insta_mug) for the cutest giveaways! All the grownups got to take home customized neck pillows (in theme, of course) and the kids took home drawstring backpacks to store all their goodies in.

Teacher Jill (@jilliancarla) for turning the party into a fun learning classroom. The kiddos loved all the activities, and the adults enjoyed watching them learn, create and have fun. She provided all the materials needed for the activities, and had such a calming effect on the children. They were so behaved, even though they had cake! This is such a great idea for a party if the celebrant is a toddler.

Melo Balingit (@melobalingit) for the photos! I’ve known Melo since the beginning of my modeling days so we go way back. It was nice to work with an old friend for Tristan’s party. We love all of his photos!

NUBY (@nubyph) / APRICA (@apricaph) / Jenna Sy (@jennasypr) for organizing this super fun party for Tristan. Jenna and I communicated through What’s App and really, that’s all it took to make it all happen. All the coordinating and logistics were by wonder woman–we love you so much, JENNA! ❤

Belo Baby (@belobabylove) for sending a giant cake for Tristan!!! We blew the cake twice, and I have to say, Tristan enjoyed it and asked to do it again and again hahaha. It was delicious! Also, thank you for sending Belo Baby giveaways for the kiddos.

Pampers #PampersBestInTheWorld for sending a yummy chocolate birthday cake and Cerelac NutriPuffs treats for all the kids!

Cycles and Cradle (@cyclesbaby_ph, @cyclessensitive and @cradlenatural_ph) and Bite Block (@biteblockprotect) for the giveaways. The parents especially loooooved receiving them as most of them are fans of the products.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted a program for Tristan’s birthday. At his age, he doesn’t really understand kiddie party games. I am glad Jenna suggested we get a teacher to facilitate fun learning for the kids because all of the children (including Tristan) enjoyed! They sang songs, made paper cars and airplanes, listened to stories and played to their hearts’ content. It was so much fun to watch the kids do the activities. Of course, the parents and yayas were there to help when they needed it.

Since Tristan had two big cakes, we decided to blow the candle twice. This was good practice for our little guy, so when we got to the second cake he knew what to do. Of course, he doesn’t know how to blow the candle yet, but he enjoyed watching mama do it. Happy Birthday, TRISTAN!!!

HUGE THANKS to all the guests to braved the rain and the traffic that day. Some arrived later than expected, but everyone had a great time once they got there. Tristan loves all of you!!!

THANK YOU so much, NUBY for making this party happen! It was an unforgettable day for the Fernandezes. #TRISTANlovesNUBY!!!

Celebrating Mother’s Day with the Baby Barangay

Photo 25-04-2017, 6 25 42 PM

What an amazing day! My Baby Barangay girls decided to celebrate Mother’s Day with each other and it proved to be the best idea, ever. We were able to get some much needed girl time, a break we mommas deserve!

We started off with an amazing lunch buffet at Spiral at Sofitel Philippine Plaza. Bianca, Nicole and I went ahead and indulged on our favorites which of course, included everything from the Cheese Room, extraordinary dishes from the Japanese, Spanish, Filipino and Chinese sections, and just every possible amazing dessert you can think of. We loved that Spiral now offers delicious and healthy dishes and juices as well, for us mommas who want to indulge but not go overboard with our choices. And of course, we made sure to pair our dishes with their excellent selection of wines.

Next on the list–to meet Cat and Patty at our favorite store: Zara! Yes, it was time for shopping. Oh my, can I just say, we had such a fun time trying on different outfits and sharing shopping/styling tips and advice. It was hilarious. And of course, we just had to snap our outfits, which turned out to be color coordinated!

The Baby Barangay moms had a wonderful time, and we’ve promised to make this a yearly tradition. Yes, we mommas deserve a girl day at least once a year–I recommend all mommy barkadas do this (or at least your own version of it).

Happy Mother’s Day to all you hardworking, wonderful mommas out there. You are doing a fantastic job raising little humans, so yes, you deserve this treat! ❤ Sending all my love to you on your special day. Go MOMS!

Thanks to Ryan Ong for these amazing photos.

Why the Baby Barangay are moms for moms

I absolutely love this Baby Barangay feature by CALYXTA.com! ❤ Click on to their site to see more photos and to shop for amazing beauty essentials. Love my girls!

Motherhood is tough, no doubt, so to find someone who can understand this challenging journey is a true blessing. This is the story of our newest Calyxta Girls – Cat Juan Ledesma, Nicole H. de los Angeles, Patty Laurel-Filart, Kelly Misa-Fernandez, and Bianca Santiago-Reinoso – who made stronger bonds when they became mothers. As they grow into life as moms, they also grew into a group of friends now known to many as Baby Barangay.

Patty Laurel-Filart is the gorgeous model/host who is wife to the Managing Director at Industree TV and CEO of ThirtySix-O.com, Patrick Filart, and mom to Theo Oliver, almost 2. She tells Calyxta, “A lot of moms and dads need all the help that they can get. We have been so blessed because we have our parents to help us. We have our amazing household help that have been superheroes to us, and even our cousins and relatives. But it’s wonderful to go through life, especially in this very difficult season, with friends who can actually relate and friends who can actually cheer you on. And that’s what we find in Baby Barangay – it’s a life-long friendship! It’s nice to journey through different seasons with people who understand where you’re coming from.”

Beauty editor and lifestyle blogger Cat Juan Ledesma considers the group as an integral part of her life, especially in the last couple of years. Wife to film director Carlo Ledesma and mom to 4-year-old Fin and 2-year-old Nara, she shares, “[Baby Barangay] has been there for me through any questions, any hardships, in any obstacle I come across in my parenting journey. These are friends of mine who support me in whatever decision I do. They are there always to offer whatever helping hands they can.”

Baby Barangay is quickly becoming social media’s hottest mom squad, with brands eager to work with the quintet of pretty women who are not just devoted wives but have also been blessed with the most beautiful kids. This combination proved to be appealing to thousands of moms and to big brands. In a world full of mean moms and mothers criticizing each other for their parenting choices, how refreshing to see moms actually cheering each other on! For example, in Baby Barangay, you have moms who breastfeed and moms who use formula. And that’s okay! This rare mommy sisterhood of Baby Barangay is so inspiring that brands now fall over themselves trying to get the wholesome friendship this group of mommies have to be part of their brand identities. Who’d have thought that a simple friendship can turn to something big?

Cat, Patty, Kelly, Nicole and Bianca would never have thought that this would happen when two years ago, they started chatting on Whatsapp. The five new moms would talk about motherhood, parenting, and all the other things they couldn’t discuss with their husbands. According to Bianca Santiago-Reinoso, the fashion stylist who is wife to Raoul Reinoso, Co-Founder/Marketing Director at Titan and SLAM Philippines, and mom to 4-year-old Liana and 1-year-old Juano, “We’re a group of friends who for some happy reason became much closer because we all became moms almost at the same time.”

Nicole H. de los Angeles, the former Pond’s girl who is now wife to entrepreneur Jaime de los Angeles and mom to 4-year-old Luis Joaquin and 2-year-old Jaime Aloncito, adds, “We’ve known each other for years since we were probably in high school and towards college as well. We all had relationships with each other individually, but it’s only now that we became moms, wives, and more or less got pregnant at the same time that we really gravitated towards each other. You know, it’s like we formed our own support group.”

As the support group began to bond further, their families would go out for dinners and travel together. On a trip to Cebu—of course with all their families in tow!—Patty named their group, “Baby Barangay.” Patty says, “It really has been this barangay in a sense because we’re a huge group, and when we travel, we take up a lot of space and two vans that are filled with a lot of suitcases! It grew as an extension of our family because eventually our husbands have become friends and our kids have been growing up together, so it almost seems like they’re cousins.”

More than doing activities and going on trips together, the group has always been present in each other’s lives especially in battling the challenges of motherhood. Kelly Misa-Fernandez, model and lifestyle blogger who is wife to businessman Carlos Fernandez and mom to Tristan Antonio, almost 2, admits, “Motherhood has been incredibly hard but these girls have made it easier. I value their advice and their no-judgment friendship. I would never have lasted this part of my life without them. They’re my go-to people when it comes to motherhood.”

Bianca adds, “As they say, it really takes a village to raise your kids so I’m blessed to have these girls.” Nicole concludes, “I probably wouldn’t survive motherhood or be where I am today without these girls with me and sharing whatever I experience with them on a daily basis. I’m lucky to have friends to go through life with, knowing they’re rallying for me.”

What happened when I went on a Chocolate Staycation

If you haven’t made plans for Holy Week, well, a staycation might just be for you, as you don’t have to travel a long way to get there. Shangri-la Makati is offering a wonderful staycation package promo at the moment, and if you’ve been following me and the Baby Barangay on Instagram, you’ll know how amazing it is!

The Baby Barangay (sans Nicole and her family) went on a chocolate staycation last weekend, and yes, you read “chocolate” right! Our families had the best time with the kiddos, decorating cupcakes and Easter jewelry boxes, and eating them all after, of course! No doubt, Shangri-la Makati is the best choice for a getaway this Holy Week, especially since they’re offering a yummy weekend for the whole family. Scroll down to see what they have to offer.

THE GRAND CHOCOLATE KITCHEN: Upon arriving at the hotel, you will find a colorful chocolate factory right in the middle of the hotel’s grand lobby. Here you’ll find all kinds of chocolates and sweet confections prepared by their amazing pastry chefs. I have to say, this creative installation is a perfect place to take family photos–the display is just super fun! This Holy Week, April 13, 14 and 15, kids can participate in cookie-decorating classes with the hotel’s friendly pastry chefs. The best part: they get to bring home their creations for free. Registration is at the selling booth of Sinfully near the concierge.

CHOCOLATE STAYCATION: This was just the perfect getaway for my little family. Shangri-La’s cutest Easter bunny, Rafa will show you an amazing time and will leave plenty of chocolates for the family to enjoy. And OMG, I need to tell you: Shangri-La makes THE BEST chocolates (try their white chocolate–so good)! Oh, and guests who book two nights at Makati Shangri‑La from now to April 16 will get two free tickets to the Easter Sunday Party! There will be surprise presents and chocolate treats at this super fun event!

EASTER SUNDAY PARTY IN THE RIZAL BALLROOM: On April 16, children will be in for the most unforgettable Easter egg hunt in a forest adventure and city adventure. They will be delighted to watch Rafa and Friends’ first musical show. There will also be a magic show, a giant sunken ship inflatable playground, children’s meals and wonderful Easter prizes to bring home. You cant miss this!

EASTER FAIR: Guests staying from April 13 to 16 will have the little ones entertained with interactive sessions in the comfort of the hotel facilities. Every day, there will be arts and crafts, cookie-decorating classes and children’s movie screening.

DINING SPECIALS: Throughout the season, guests may take the family on a culinary journey around the hotel and discover the best finds from five restaurants, namely, Circles, Inagiku, Shang Palace, Sage Bespoke Grill and Lobby Lounge. They can look for Rafa, Pao-Pao, Pochie and Bubbly at the restaurants for a nice surprise treat.

As a special treat, the Baby Barangay was invited to visit the pastry room, where all the chocolate magic happens! The amazing pastry chefs taught the kiddos to decorate yummy Easter cookies and treats. And each family got a giant jewelry box each that we were allowed to fill with as many chocolates and cookies as we wanted! What an amazing experience!!!

Of course, we all got to enjoy our “hard work”–we had all this for tea right after. Yummy!

How to throw a super fun laid back kiddie party

The little princesses of Baby Barangay: Liana and Nara recently celebrated their birthdays and threw the most wonderful party. Their mommas definitely outdid themselves and were able to pull off a happy, laid-back, super fun birthday party for the girls. Seriously, the kiddos did not want to leave as they had full access to a mini city (complete with pretend stores/shopping carts, cars and a bouncing castle), a building blocks play area, giant bubbles and super yummy food. Tristan had so much fun he refused to wear pants (proof it was indeed a kick-ass party haha).

Happy, happy birthday to LIANA, who turned four, and NARA, who turned two! We love you so much.

Reasons why you need essential oils in your life

I was recently invited to attend a workshop on essential oils (hosted by doTERRA), along with Baby Barangay moms Cat Juan-Ledesma, Bianca Santiago-Reinoso and Patty Laurel-Filart. All I can say is WOW, I had no idea how amazing essential oils are and how many health benefits they deliver when used correctly.

Before this, my knowledge of essential oils was limited to aromatherapy via room scents (using burners or air purifiers). I did not know essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications (as single essential oils or in complex essential oil blends depending on the user) that include aromatic, topical and internal methods. These can actually be used as a natural alternative to traditional medicine and have proven to elicit powerful physiologic, mental, and emotional responses.

Admittedly, this was all hard to believe at first. Until I tried it at home and saw for myself how effective they are. Now, I don’t think I can live without it and I am ready to try other essential oils to treat common ailments.

The best example I can think of is how effective lavender essential oil has been for putting my son Tristan to sleep. So okay, one thing about my son is that he likes to sleep late. He is usually most active at night, and my husband and I have tried so many things to change this, including waking him up in the morning, changing his nap time, and tiring him out so he is asleep by 10pm. Nothing has worked (our little guy fights sleep no matter how tried he is) and just when we were ready to give up, we tried using lavender essential oil. We applied it on Tristan’s neck and feet, and it worked like magic. Seriously, all we needed was a drop and he went straight to bed.

Now, I need to make it clear that the lavender I used is a therapeutic-grade essential oil from doTERRA. The US-based company has been selling essential oils since 2008 and is one of the first to standardize only the highest quality essential oils from around the world as Certified Therapeutic Grade (CPTG). I need to clarify this because before the workshop I though all essential oils are pretty much the same thing. They are not. The efficacy will depend on how potent the essential oil is and of course, how trustworthy the brand is.

I am definitely no expert here (there is still so much for me to learn), but I feel like this is too good not to share. So, here’s what I learned from this amazing workshop by doTERRA–scroll down to read all about the health benefits of essential oils.

1.) Essential oils are quickly absorbed by the smell receptors, which have a direct link to the limbic system by way of the olfactory nerve. The limbic system is part of the brain that supports a variety of functions including smell, emotions, behavior, and memory. For this reason, essential oils have an especially powerful effect thru aromatic application.

2.) You can achieve the same health benefits by simply placing a few drops of essential oil in the palm of your hand that is then cupped around the nose as you breathe deeply. Other ways to use essential oils is by applying oil to a cotton ball and placing it in the air vents of your vehicle, mixing oils in a spray bottle with water and misting over furniture, carpet or linens, adding oil to a batch of laundry or to dryer sheets, and using it in household surface cleaners.

3.) Another effective method for applying essential oils is by topical application. Because essential oils have low molecular weight and are lipid soluble, they easily penetrate the skin. Once absorbed, they stay in the applied area for a localized benefit.

4.) Although essential oils are readily absorbed, there are many ways to increase absorption. Using a light massage with increase blood flow to the area of application, in turn improving distribution throughout the body. Use of a carrier oil (such as Fractionated Coconut Oil) can also increase absorption, especially in skin that is dry or flaky as it helps moisturize the skin and slow evaporation of the oil.

5.) It’s always advisable to use several small doses throughout the day rather than a single large dose. Start with the lowest possible dose (1–2 drops). A topical dose can be repeated every 4–6 hours as needed. Because every individual is unique, the dose will vary for each individual based on size, age, and overall health status. Other effective methods of topical application include adding a few drops of oil to a warm bath, making a hot or cold compress by soaking a tower or cloth in water, adding essential oils, and then applying to the desired area, and adding oil to a moisturizer and then applying to skin.

6.) Essential oil contributes many health benefits as well as flavoring and aroma properties to foods. When in their concentrated form, essential oils can be used as dietary supplements for more targeted and potent health benefits. Internal use is a very safe and effective method of application because of the sophisticated physiologic processes of our bodies.

7.) When ingested, essential oils directly enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract, where they are transported throughout the rest of the body. Essential oils are lipid soluble so they are readily transported to all organs of the body, including the brain. Then, like all things we consume, essential oils are metabolized by the liver and other organs and are then excreted. You actually use oils in recipes for cooking and baking to replace fresh or dried herbs and spices (it is best to start with a very small amount—a tip is to use the end of a clean toothpick into the oil and then add to the food rather than using a dropper), add essentials oils to water, smoothies, milk, tea, etc.       img_8730
